Gratitude Attitude

Content Provided by FoundCare’s Behavioral Health Team

Every year, during this time, we show appreciation for what we have in our lives. Gratitude is just that; the act of being thankful and appreciative for things most of us take for granted every day. Even though you are struggling to adjust to a new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic, practicing gratitude is more important than ever before.

Practicing gratitude every day can:

  • Improve your physical health.
  • Improve your mental health.
  • Help others around you. A positive attitude is contagious and uplifting.
  • Boost your self-esteem. Gratitude enhances positive emotions and overall well-being.
  • Make you stronger. Staying positive during hard times will help you grow as an individual.

Expressing gratitude can have a positive effect on your mental health by increasing your happiness. It can help you become more optimistic, improve your relationship with others, and train your mind to find the positive in every situation.

Studies have shown that gratitude can boost self-esteem by eliminating the need to compare yourself to others. Grateful people are thankful not only for what they have but are also appreciative of other people’s success, creating better and stronger relationships. Gratitude allows you to recognize all that you have to be thankful for and builds resilience during challenging times.

This year, I encourage you to practice gratitude every day by choosing to focus on the things that you take for granted daily. Doing so will allow you to experience the benefits that follow a thankful mindset. A “gratitude attitude” will bring joy into the life you currently live.

  • Clean clothes to wear.
  • Opening the blinds to a beautiful day.
  • Having food to eat.
  • Your health and your family’s health and wellbeing.
  • The laughter of your children and the chatter of your friends.
